Expansion of the Do Morrazo Highway – P.K. 05+360

The works for the expansion of the Morrazo Corridor around P.K. 05+300 include the execution of an embankment on a mid-slope, which will be supported laterally by a retaining wall of variable height, exceeding 10.0 meters in some areas.

The possibility of replacing this embankment with a mid-slope structure has been considered. On the side corresponding to the current roadway, it consists of a support formed by a loader foundation directly on the platform, while on the side corresponding to the expansion, there is a series of rectangular supports and an upper beam that form the support on this side of the deck.

AIN Active developed a preliminary analysis of the described structural configuration and carried out the preliminary sizing of the main elements that constitute it.

The proposed structure is formed by a T-beam deck with a double T-section, with a gap between them, and connected at the top by a reinforced concrete slab. The deck support is made on the side of the existing roadway using a loader, and on the opposite side, the support is made on another continuous loader that rests on variable height rectangular supports. The foundation is executed with a foundation base and micropiles.
