The contract covers the main infrastructures in Operating Zone 4 of the Tajo River Basin Authority. The scope of the projects extends across the provinces of Guadalajara and Cuenca, encompassing the Henares, Tajuña and Headwaters operating systems.
In the Henares system there are four large state‑owned reservoirs located on right‑bank tributaries of the River Henares:
-
Beleña Dam, 57 metres high, classified as Category A, is an embankment dam with a central clay core. The reservoir is intended to supply the Sorbe, La Muela and Campiña Baja water associations.
-
Alcorlo Dam, 73 metres high, is a rockfill dam with a central clay core. It meets the water demand of the Bornova Water Association and the irrigated areas of the Bornova and Henares systems.
-
Pálmaces Dam, 43 metres high, classified as Category A, is a straight‑gravity dam. The reservoir provides support to Alcorlo for supplying the irrigated areas of the system.
-
El Atance Dam, 44 metres high from foundation level, also Category A, is a gravity dam with roller‑compacted concrete (RCC). The reservoir supports the water supply to the irrigated areas.
In the Tajuña system is located La Tajera Dam, on the River Tajuña itself, 62 metres high, classified as Category A and designed as a double‑curvature arch dam. Its reservoir supplies the Almoguera‑Mondéjar water association and the irrigated area of Vega del Tajuña.
In the Headwaters system are located the reservoirs of Entrepeñas, on the River Tagus, and Buendía, on the River Guadiela, connected by a 3 km tunnel and forming the headworks of the Tagus–Segura transfer, together with Pareja Dike, used for recreational purposes:
-
Entrepeñas Dam, 87 metres high, is classified as Category A and is a straight‑gravity dam.
-
Buendía Dam, 78 metres high, is also classified as Category A and is a gravity dam.
-
Pareja Dike, located in a floodable area of the Entrepeñas reservoir, is 19 metres high, classified as Category C and is an embankment structure with a central clay core.
In addition to these main infrastructures, the contract also covers other facilities and ancillary works associated with the aforementioned dams.
