Icona Hydropower Project

The purpose of the consultancy is to develop a technical pre-investment design for the construction of the “Icona Hydropower Plant”.

To achieve the defined objectives, the following scope of work is considered:

  • Analyse, assess and, where necessary, supplement the existing information.

  • Diagnose the current status of the project and propose improvements in the area.

  • Carry out field investigations to obtain accurate information on the actual conditions.

  • Define technically and economically feasible alternatives that ensure power generation.

  • Develop the detailed engineering design of the project components.

  • Perform the sizing of the turbogenerator, and the selection and general layout of the powerhouse structures, penstock, electrical substation, control and protection systems, and metering for the entire project.

  • Collect socio-environmental data for environmental categorization and prepare the Environmental Impact Study, mitigation plans and other studies covering the entire project lifetime as well as future closure and abandonment scenarios.

  • Select the technical specifications and prepare the bidding documents for civil works, hydromechanical, electromechanical and electrical equipment, and for the interconnection scheme to the national grid, including supply, installation and commissioning of the selected alternative.

  • Prepare the Operation and Maintenance Plan for the selected alternative.

The Icona Hydropower Plant is composed of six vertical-shaft Francis units, with a total turbine flow of 185 m³/s, a gross head of 228 m, an installed capacity of 342 MW and a firm capacity of 272 MW.
