Meirama Pumped Storage Plant

AIN ACTIVE has undertaken the preliminary project required to obtain the administrative authorization for a 440 MW reversible hydropower plant, consisting of two vertically shafted Francis pump-turbines operating with a turbine-cycle flow rate of 159 m³/s and a pump-cycle flow rate of 135 m³/s, over a gross head of 319 m , with a maximum active power of 434 MW in generation mode, 444 MW in pumping mode, and an energy storage capacity of 3 GWh (≈ 8 hours of storage).

The facility uses the existing Lago das Encrobas as the lower reservoir and a newly built 4.83 hm³ upper reservoir, while maintaining a reserve volume of 24 hm³ in the lake to ensure water supply to the city of A Coruña.
